Waynesboro Burke County delivers heart-wrenching defeat to North Augusta 33-27

It wasn’t pretty, gut-tough wins usually aren’t, but Waynesboro Burke County wasn’t going for style points. A victory will do, and it was earned 33-27 over North Augusta in South Carolina high school football on Sept. 17.

Tough to find an edge early, Waynesboro Burke County and North Augusta fashioned a 7-7 stalemate through the first quarter.

The Bears’ offense jumped for a 20-10 lead over the Yellow Jackets at the intermission.

The Bears jumped ahead of the Yellow Jackets 27-20 as the fourth quarter started.

Both teams traded salvos in the final period, but the Bears had enough offense to deny the Yellow Jackets in the end.
