In the first meeting between these teams, Liverpool FC were able to snatch the lead in the 15th minute, when Stefan Bajcetic was handed a yellow card for an infringement. Wolverhampton responded soon after, as Nélson Semedo was also booked for a foul in the 36th minute.

The second half proved to be just as exciting. In the 73rd minute, Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring with a goal for Liverpool FC, assisted by the Portuguese Diogo Jota.
