Athens Clarke Central slips past Covington Eastside 13-6

It wasn’t pretty, gut-tough wins usually aren’t, but Athens Clarke Central wasn’t going for style points. A victory will do, and it was earned 13-6 over Covington Eastside in Georgia high school football on Oct. 1.

Each offense authored its Rip Van Winkle imitation, napping through a barren first quarter.

Athens Clarke Central registered a 6-0 advantage at intermission over Covington Eastside.

The Gladiators jumped to a 13-3 bulge over the Eagles as the fourth quarter began.

The verdict could’ve been in doubt thanks to Covington Eastside’s finishing flurry, but Athens Clarke Central swerved out of trouble to earn the win in the fourth quarter.
